Poll Reveals Poorer And Less Educated Voters Support Sarah Palin, Wealthier Voters Prefer Romney (Mediaite)

May 9th, 2011

A new Gallup poll reveals that voters who identify as more conservative, do not have college degrees and who make less than $24,000 annually are more likely to support former Alaska governor Sarah Palin over Mitt Romney for president in 2012. Romney, on the other hand, has evidently fared better with voters who describe themselves as “liberals to moderate”, have received degrees of higher learning and who make at least $90,000 a year.

Miller security guards handcuff editor (Anchorage Daily News)

The editor of the Alaska Dispatch website was arrested by U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller's private security guards Sunday as the editor attempted to interview Miller at the end of a public event in an Anchorage school.
Tony Hopfinger was handcuffed by the guards and detained in a hallway at Central Middle School until Anchorage police came and told the guards to release Hopfinger.

Hopfinger has not been charged but the owner of the Drop Zone, the private security firm that's been providing Miller's security, accused Hopfinger of trespassing at the public event, a town hall sponsored by the Miller campaign. The owner, William Fulton, also said Hopfinger assaulted a man by shoving him.

Sarah Palin Welcomes New Next-Door Neighbor: ‘Scathing’ Journo Joe McGinniss (Mediaite)

by Glynnis MacNicol
Mediaite
May 25th, 2010

I have to imagine that when legendary (“scathing”) political writer Joe McGinniss (The Selling of the President) landed a book deal with Random House last fall to pen a “investigative narrative of Sarah Palin’s significance as both political and cultural phenomenon and as an embodiment of the contradictory forces that shaped Alaska as it moved into its second half-century as a state” he did not take into consideration Sarah Palin’s Facebook page. Or maybe he did and this is a part of a secret, ingenious, PR campaign. Either way, Sarah Palin says ‘Welcome.’ Actually, she says: “Hi, neighbor! May I call you “Joe”?

McGinniss has apparently rented the house next door to Palin’s in Wasilla, Alaska in order to research his new book, and has been taking the view from over the fence; something Palin does not fail to make sound slightly creepy. This is how Palin greeted him on her Facebook page:
Spring has sprung in Alaska, and with this beautiful season comes the news today that the Palins have a new neighbor! Welcome, Joe McGinniss!
Yes, that Joe McGinniss. Here he is – about 15 feet away on the neighbor’s rented deck overlooking my children’s play area and my kitchen window. Maybe we’ll welcome him with a homemade blueberry pie tomorrow so he’ll know how friendly Alaskans are.

'Sarah Palin's Alaska' gets network deal (Hollywood Reporter)

Camp Buehring, Kuwait - Alaska Governor Sarah ...Sarah Palin, image via Wikipedia
From James Hibberd:

Kate Gosselin, "Cake Boss" and now ... Sarah Palin.

Discovery Communications has finished its deal with the former Alaska governor for her reality show, with the company planning to air the series on its TLC channel.

"Discovery Communications is so excited to help Sarah Palin tell the story of Alaska, and to have a great documentary filmmaker in Mark Burnett helping to reveal Alaska's powerful beauty as it has never been filmed, and as told by one of the state's proudest daughters," said Peter Liguori, COO, Discovery Communications.

Sarah Palin near deal for reality show (Hollywood Reporter)

James Hibberd's The Live Feed:

Sarah_palin_341x182 Exclu: Sarah Palin is close to a deal for her travelogue reality show.

Sources say Discovery Communications has edged out rival A&E Networks in the bidding for the project, titled "Sarah Palin's Alaska." An agreement could be announced in the next few days.

It's still undecided which network in the Discovery suite would air "Alaska," which is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions.

Although travelogues are on brand for the Discovery flagship, having Palin as a centerpiece also makes the show a fit for mom-friendly TLC. Clearly nature docs are still viable for the company -- Discovery's latest effort in genre, the miniseries "Life," just debuted to 11.8 million viewers on Sunday night.

Lorne Michaels, Seth Myers on Politics & SNL (FishBowlNY)

Saturday Night Live (season 35)Image via Wikipedia
By Kevin Allocca
Mar 03, 2010

... Eventually, the conversation turned to politics, and Lorne Michaels insisted, "We try very hard not to be partisan. Whoever you are we're against it." Seth Meyers said getting across a point of view is not a priority, "You try so hard to be funny, you just worry about that."

Michaels said that when Sarah Palin was on she was "incredibly gracious," "extremely likeable," and "clearly a star." In regards to those famous political sketches, he said, "We deal in the world of perception. It's not real."

If you're one of those people who thinks SNL's not as funny as it used to be, you're not alone. Michaels says, "[People say,] 'You know what the great period was?' It's almost always when they were in high school." He said that's the time when "people bond with the cast."

Palin's Tea Party Crib Notes (Stefan Sirucek, Huffington Post)

Closer inspection of a photo of Sarah Palin, during a speech in which she mocked President Obama for his use of a teleprompter, reveals several notes written on her left hand. The words "Energy", "Tax" and "Lift American Spirits" are clearly visible.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (8 PM CST)
Ahh sweet Earl Grey Revolution! Sarah Palin knew that speech like the back of her hand. The Q&A answers, however, were on the front of her hand.

Or so it appeared.

During the Q&A following her speech at the Tea Party Convention, Ms. Palin appeared to read from her hand in answering.

Sarah Palin PAC Paid $47,777 for Memoir Copies (Galleycat)

palinbook23.jpgAs news of price wars obsessed the publishing world today, one political celebrity disclosed some hefty book purchases. According to filings from the Sarah Palin PAC, the former Alaskan governor bought $47,777 worth of copies of her memoir from HarperCollins. UPDATE 1: The LA Times cites reports that the Palin PAC spent more than $63,000 on book purchases.

If the campaign team paid the $13.50 hardcover price currently featured on Amazon, those campaign dollars bought more than 3,500 copies of the book. If they paid the full $28.99 hardcover price, they bought more than 1,600 copies. However, if they paid the $9.99 harcover price batted around during the Great Walmart and Amazon Price War, they could have purchased more than 4,700 copies of "Going Rogue: An American Life."

10 jokes about Sarah Palin joining Fox News (TrueSlant.com)

Fox News Channel controversiesImage via Wikipedia
By David Rees

1. Roger Ailes was interviewing Sarah Palin for a job at Fox News. “According to your resume, you left your last position as Governor of Alaska due to ‘philosophical differences’ with your employer. Could you explain?” “Y’see Mr. Ailes,” said Palin, “I became philosophically opposed to doing actual work instead of flying around in a private jet wearing fancy clothes and basking in the adulation of idiots.” “Oh, I didn’t mean that,” replied Ailes. “I meant, explain how you learned how to spell ‘philosophical.’”

2. A producer was giving Sarah Palin a tour of the Fox News studio. He pointed out the coffee machine, the restrooms, and the temperature-controlled pool where Glenn Beck’s tears are harvested. “Where’s the indoor dog track?” asked Palin. The producer was confused: “Indoor dog track?” “Yeah, I’ve heard dogs panting since I got here,” replied Palin. “Ah,” the producer said, “those aren’t panting dogs; it’s Bill Kristol. It means he’s excited to see you.”

3. Why did Sarah Palin cross the road?
Because there was an opportunity to make an ass of herself on the other side.

REVEALED: See Going Rogue Event 'Banned List' Drawn Up By Todd Palin (TPM)

We've just gotten our hands on the so-called "banned list" that was responsible for two journalists getting booted from a Sarah Palin book event in Wasilla last week. Check it out right here.

And we've got new details that shed light on Todd Palin's role as his wife's chief enforcer.

The "coordinating instructions" document, whose authenticity was confirmed by James Hastings, the Wasilla official who runs the arena and who wrote the instructions, refers to a "DENIED ACCESS LIST PER TODD PALIN." And, after listing three names, continues:

"Coordination with Todd will be required to identify those folks in the event they present themselves NOT as media reps. They are not welcome by the family and this is a private rental of the facility with a public invite and access limited list provided by renters."

Going Rogue Without a Condom (Margaret and Helen)

Margaret.  Chapter One of Going Rogue by Sarah Palin ends on page 62.  That’s about 61 pages after it should have ended.  It  has approximately 19,500 words to it, but not one of them was worth reading. It’s all pure crap.   If this chapter is any indication of what’s ahead, then it appears Mrs. Palin plans to spend the rest of her life getting even with the world by rewriting history.

The very first page of the book is a map of the globe as seen from the North Pole – I guess to emphasize the proximity of Alaska to Russia.  Honestly honey, when is she going to learn that dog don’t hunt?  Her defending us from Russia would be about as effective as Todd Palin’s preferred brand of condoms.   Oh yes –  Track arrived not quite 8 months after they sprinted to the courthouse to elope.  I guess Sarah’s ghost writer didn’t think anyone who reads this book could count.

Sarah 'Barracuda' Palin and the Piranhas of the Press (PoliticsDaily.com)

By Carl Cannon
July 8, 2009

Sarah Palin's rambling abdication speech was hard to follow, let alone acclaim, but in her abrupt announcement that she is withdrawing from public office, the Republican governor of Alaska was hardly the only player in a 10-month drama who demonstrated a lack of self-awareness. Democrats scoffed at her "politics of personal destruction" line, but it's a maxim they originally popularized, and one they will undoubtedly trot out again the next time it happens to one of their own. But the true villains in this political morality play may have been the press.

The mainstream media is undergoing its demise, drip by drip, day by day, and its practitioners, which include most of my friends in life, are under considerable pressure. In my opinion, however, these pressures do not excuse the treatment accorded Sarah Palin. On the contrary, to me the entire Sarah saga revealed that it wasn't only the traditional media's business model that is broken. Our journalism model is busted, too.

In the 2008 election, we took sides, straight and simple, particularly with regard to the vice presidential race. I don't know that we played a decisive role in that campaign, and I'm not saying the better side lost. What I am saying is that we simply didn't hold Joe Biden to the same standard as Sarah Palin, and for me, the real loser in this sordid tale is my chosen profession.
