After a few weeks of hemming and hawing, Fox News has agreed to air a 30-second commercial, produced by Media Matters, disclosing to prime-time viewers News Corp.’s $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association.
The spot will air during Tuesday’s “O’Reilly Factor,” according to Media Matters.
Fox had initially refused
to run the ad because of objections to language -- specifically, that
News Corp. had refused to disclose the donation to Fox viewers.
The edited version (above) states introduces the ad is “about a story that's not yet been covered on Fox News primetime.”

When 'Bite Me' Is 'Off the Record' (The Atlantic)
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, image via WikipediaBy Chuck Todd and Albert Oetgen
September 6, 2010
September 6, 2010
A day after Rolling Stone Magazine published an
explosive profile of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, featuring raw comments and
salty language, a sort of self-generated audit of Washington's
journalistic conventions took off inside the Beltway.
One
phrase in the piece, written by freelancer Michael Hastings, captured
its tone and triggered this rare self-examination: An unnamed McChrystal
staffer referred to Vice President Joe Biden, the man a heartbeat away
from being his commander-in-chief, as Joe "Bite Me." It was offensive to
official Washington, not for its substance, but for its ham-handed
execution.
Sure, we talk like that all the time
among ourselves, veteran insiders told one another. But how in the
world did that stuff get into print? How, especially, did McChrystal
let himself get connected to some of that language? And, oh, by the
way, since when did it become okay to use cheap shot, schoolyard barbs
uttered by unidentified and unaccountable mid-level staffers to
disparage the McChrystals and Bidens of the world?

September 8, 2010
A top economic adviser to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) quit his position after he was caught attempting to bring marijuana into his Senate office building.
The aide, Marcus Stanley, was stopped by Capitol Hill Police at an entrance to the Hart Senate building on Tuesday when officers found him with "a green, leafy substance which tested positive for marijuana,'' a spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal.
Stanley faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. Boxer Spokesman Zachary Coile said Stanley submitted his resignation "because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable."

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and the Florida pastor who threatened (is threatening?) to burn Korans, Terry Jones, were high school classmates.
Politics Daily reports that the two attended Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo. According to a Web site by someone who says he also went to the school:
Rush Limbaugh USED to be Cape Girardeau's most prominent export. One of his classmates from the Central High School Class of 1969 is dominating the news right now: Terry Jones, the Gainesville, FL, preacher who is threatening to hold an "International Burn a Koran Day" on September 11.Click HERE to Keep Reading!

Meghan McCain Wants To Send Laura Ingraham A ‘Plus-Sized’ Fruit Basket (Mediaite)

The New York Times has fallen for Meghan McCain. The Style Section may not be the all-powerful arbiter of importance it used to be, but it’s hard not to read their lengthy and glowing feature on @McCainBlogette as some sort of ‘here is the future of politics’ official coming out party.
As you likely know Meghan McCain has just published Dirty Sexy Politics, her memoir of the 2008 election campaign, to pretty warm reviews and has been making the media rounds all week. In the article the NYT tackles some of McCain’s more tangled relationships with women during and after the campaign specifically Laura Ingraham (who famously dismissed her as “plus-sized” ), Sarah Palin (whom she calls a “the most beautiful politician I had ever seen” and a “ticking time bomb”), and First Lady Laura Bush.

Robert Gibbs Really Wants You To Read NYT’s Harsh Piece On John Boehner (Mediaite)
John Boehner, image via Wikipediaby Glynnis MacNicol
September 12th, 2010
Here’s a preview of how the Midterm media battles will be waged. The New York Times is running a front page feature on House Minority leader John Boehner (“a 60-year-old, perpetually tanned, sharply tailored, chain-smoking golfer”) the man recently cast as President Obama’s main foe in the Republican party, and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has taken to Twitter to tell you how much he really wants you to read it.
The article details Boehner’s “especially tight ties with a circle of lobbyists and former aides representing some of the nation’s biggest businesses, including Goldman Sachs, Google, Citigroup, R. J. Reynolds, MillerCoors and UPS” and speculates on how these ties influence his political decisions in dubious ways.
