Asked about Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s election chances on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, syndicated columnist George Will disclosed that his wife has joined the campaign, then proceeded to say that candidates can recover from gaffes like the ones that have plagued Perry. Will’s wife Mari Maseng, who’s worked in politics for 30 years, is advising the Perry campaign on messaging and debate preparation. Will said on the show that some staffers for Mitt Romney had tried to make an issue about it. Politico’s Dylan Byers notes that Will has used his column to criticize Romney, including an Oct. 28 column headlined, “The pretzel candidate.”

How Will Rick Perry Spin This?

All those numbers can make a well-coiffed head hurt. Rick Perry is telling everyone on the campaign trail that Texas added more jobs to the economy than any other state. Yet this week Texas' unemployment numbers came out, and the state has its highest unemployment rate since 1987. Ronald Reagan was in the White House and gasoline cost 91 cents a gallon. I think Bob Andelman even had hair in 1987.

Now, maybe unemployment in Texas is so high because it is so desirable to live in this state. So all these carpetbaggers are coming in here looking for jobs and finding nothing. Or maybe Rick Perry is just full of crap.

Introducing the double-secret candidate

Presidents throughout history have done their best to keep things hidden from the public. Sometimes they have national security implications, like the Pentagon Papers. Sometimes they are just embarrassing, like chubby interns with an oral fixation.

Enter Rick Perry. The longest-serving governor in Texas history really has no desire for you to know ANYTHING about where he goes, what he does and what it costs Texas taxpayers.

Teabaggers love Perry because he talks about small government and reducing the power of Washington. However he won't let the public, which pays the bills for what he does, see how – or even IF – he's getting that done.

Our state is recovering from one of the most contentious legislative sessions ever. The next one in 2013 will be just as bad if not worse. And Perry keeps piling on the costs, only we're not allowed to see them. Read this and you'll see what I'm talking about.

We're so stupid in Texas

Pop art Portrait of Rick PerryImage via WikipediaMr. Media® Radio Network • Email • Twitter • Facebook • LinkedIn • YouTube

I lose most sense of reason when it comes to writing about Rick Perry and his presidential aspirations. So I'm just going to defer to Harold Cook.

Cook is a clever and satirical political observer. But he makes a very logical case against Governor Good-Hair in the White House.

Unfortunately, we've made this penis with ears the longest-serving governor in our state's history. I blame the hayseeds in the rural parts of the state for that. Please Great Nation, don't make our mistake.

Read and share THIS or he could be our next president.

If Only it Were a Very Bad Joke (Back To Basics)

The Back To Basics blog caused me to vomit in my mouth just a little bit this morning. Not only did they raise the same ugly specter about Gov. Good Hair that I did yesterday. They included actual facts about the kind of stuff he's tried to ram down the throats of the good citizens of Texas. It's the kind of stuff William Barret Travis, Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett would never stand for. But the majority of the voters in the state keep lifting their coattails and saying, "Thank you sir, may I have another!"

Gov. Good Hair isn't entirely FED up

Pop art Portrait of Rick PerryImage via WikipediaEmail • Twitter • Facebook • LinkedIn • YouTube

I grew up a very proud Texan. One set of grandparents fled the persecution of the Mexican Revolution, while another left Tennessee for greener grasses (or cotton fields). Eventually I sprouted, and I have always been proud of my state, until now.

First we unleash the unholy hell that was Dubya. Now Gov. Good Hair is giving thought to a presidential run. What is it about the White House that attracts the over-coiffed?

This once solidly democratic state is getting back at all the Yellow Dogs who gerrymandered the GOP into also-ran status for decades. We are reaping what we have sown, in spades. And it is permeating beyond the state's borders.

Democrats are hopeful that the booming Hispanic population could result in a Democratic revival. But more than likely, the Latino vote is being taken for granted.

Just know, I'm sorry. It's not my fault. I did all I could. I'm only one voter. Trust me, if there were anything I could do that wasn't illegal, I'd do it.

Hopefully the GOP's parade of clowns will continue, and maybe we can keep Hope alive.

Stories that could rock the summer (Politico)

Citizens registered as an Independent, Democra...Image via Wikipedia

On the eve of the summer campaign doldrums, the narrative for the midterm elections seems well-established: Big losses are in store for Democrats in November, incumbents of all stripes ought to be looking over their shoulders and the political establishments in both parties are out of favor.

Yet as fixed as those story lines might seem at the moment, there’s plenty that could still go wrong — or right — to alter the Democratic Party's or Republican Party’s trajectory over the next few months.

Natural disasters could wreak havoc. Crimes might be exposed. Jaw-dropping gaffes that could be committed, and unforeseen political forces could yet be unleashed.
