The Michele Bachmann campaign is furious at CBS News this morning, following the foreign policy debate held last night. The reason? The campaign volunteered Bachmann to appear on the post-debate webcast, and (just announced) CBS News political director John Dickerson–apparently unaware a Bachmann staffer was on the email chain–responded in a way that suggested that Bachmann would be getting fewer questions than other candidates, and that they should hold out for a better candidate on the webcast.

“Okay let’s keep it loose though since she’s not going to get many questions and she’s nearly off the charts in the hopes that we can get someone else,” Dickerson wrote.

In Campaign Events, Bachmann Controls Image (New York Times)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — As Representative Michele Bachmann’s blue bus pulled up to a recent rally here, a campaign aide shooed a reporter poised to ask a question from the spot where she would step down. “Our arrivals are closed,” he said.
After her speech under a scorching sun, Mrs. Bachmann popped back into the bus to freshen up before meeting reporters and their high-definition cameras, looking as pulled-together as if she had visited a day spa.

All presidential candidates try to control their image. But the campaign of Mrs. Bachmann, the winner of the Iowa straw poll this month who is now battling to be seen as a national front-runner, is more controlling than most, carefully stage-managing her contacts with the news media and the public.

Huntsman Says He’d Be Open to Being Bachmann’s VP (Slate.com)

Jon Huntsman said Monday that he’d be open to filling out the VP slot on the Republican ticket if Michele Bachmann were to win the party's presidential nomination.

Huntsman, who has so far struggled to break through into the top tier of GOP presidential candidates, made the somewhat surprising admission Monday night during an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan. After Morgan then pointed out that his comments would likely be perceived as the admission of a possible defeat, Huntsman appeared to backtrack slightly, saying he gave a “more or less a hypothetical answer.”

As can be the case with television interviews, especially whenever politicians are concerned, it wasn’t exactly clear whether the interviewer and the interviewee were on exactly the same page. Still, Huntsman’s comments made clear that he’d be hard pressed to turn down the VP slot if offered, whether by Bachmann or another candidate.

July 10, 2011

WASHINGTON -- A socially conservative Iowa group apologized Saturday evening for a controversial reference to slavery in a "marriage vow" signed by presidential candidates Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Rick Santorum, Politico reported.

The marriage vow, which was created by the Pleasant Hill, Iowa-based group The Family Leader, calls on signers to swear fidelity to his or her spouse and also oppose "any redefinition" of marriage, including same-sex marriages.

The original vow also included a controversial passage in its preamble suggesting that black children born into slavery had a more stable family life than African-American children today.

Tim Pawlenty: Bachmann’s ‘Record Of Accomplishment In Congress Is Non-Existent’ (Mediaite/Meet the Press)

Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty is eager to add some excitement back to his campaign, and this morning on Meet the Press he may have found just the ticket: going on the attack. In Pawlenty’s crosshairs was fellow presidential candidate Michele Bachmann who Pawlenty dismissed as having no successes in Congress that would make her more worthy than him of being elected President.

(Thought from the Peanut Gallery: If Pawlenty wants to be really brave, why not say stuff like this on Fox News? Probably for the same reason he wouldn't say "Obamneycare" in front of Mitt Romney.)

ARIZONA (The Borowitz Report) – In a fledgling campaign that has already produced more than its share of gaffes, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) today confused her ass with a hole in the ground during a campaign swing through Arizona.

Speaking to a group of supporters in Phoenix, Rep. Bachmann raised eyebrows when she said, “It’s great to be here in Arizona, the home of my ass.”

After her comment was greeted with confused murmurs from the crowd, Rep. Bachmann quickly added, “Oh wait, did I say my ass?  I meant the Grand Canyon.”

Bachmann said Obama voted against the debt limit when he was a senator (Politifact.com)

By Politifact.com Staff

Michele Bachmann said she would not support increasing the debt ceiling if it didn't include major reductions in government spending.

"I've already voted no on raising the debt ceiling in the past. And unless there are serious cuts, I can't," she said at debate June 13, 2011, in New Hampshire. Bachmann is seeking the 2012 Republican nomination for president.

"But I want to speak to someone that's far more eloquent than I," she continued. "Someone who said just dealing with the issue of raising the debt ceiling is a failure of leadership. That person was then Senator Barack Obama. He refused to raise the debt ceiling because he said President Bush had failed in leadership."

We decided to fact-check Bachmann's to see if she was right.

Michele Bachmann: Obama Is The Worst President In United States History (Mediaite)

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R – MN) recently recorded a interview with conservative radio host Ben Shapiro, and lashed into President Obama. The most noteworthy comments include calling his response to the BP oil spill “infantile,” claiming that Obama is siding with Islam against Israel and…wait for it: saying he’s the worst president in American history. Now that’s hyperbole!
