You knew this wasn’t going to end smoothly. With dozens of cameras broadcasting live on more than a half dozen networks Rep. Anthony Weiner announced he was leaving his seat in Congress following a sexting scandal.


Midway through his announcement — hard to call it a news conference since he took no questions — a writer and performer from the Howard Stern show, Benjy Bronk, did what performers on the Howard Stern show do: he interrupted the news conference, yelling mostly inaudible comments directed at Weiner — specifically about the parts of his body that have been at the center of this sordid story from the beginning. Also, his last name.

Buying a Trump Property, or So They Thought (New York Times)

For many middle-class Americans, it is the most coveted brand in real estate, synonymous with sky-piercing luxury and can’t-miss quality: Donald J. Trump.

Far from the New York City towers that bear his name, in cities like Tampa, Fla., and Philadelphia, house hunters clamor to buy into his developments, sometimes exhausting credit lines and wiping out savings for a chance to own a piece of his gilded empire.

But as Mr. Trump, who is weighing a bid for the White House, has zealously sought to cash in on his name, he has entered into arrangements that home buyers describe as deliberately deceptive — designed, they said, to exploit the very thing that drew them to his buildings: their faith in him.

ALBANY - A chaotic Capitol plunged to new lows Monday as Gov. Paterson was forced to swat down "callous and sleazy" speculation he's quitting amid personal and political scandal.

The pushback capped a remarkable few days in which an apparently orchestrated rumor mill about the gov's drug use and womanizing reached a fever pitch, peaking with blogs claiming his resignation was imminent.

An increasingly beleaguered Paterson scrambled yesterday to pick up the pieces of his political world as it crumbled around him.

"For the last couple of weeks I have been the subject of what, even by Albany standards, has been a spate of outrageous rumors about me," Paterson told The Associated Press.
